Please read carefully!

  • Wearing proper shoes with socks is compulsory. We do recommend wearing high basketball shoes and/or surf booties. If you don’t wear proper shoes, you will cut yourself on the sharp shells present in the oyster- and mussels beds that we will encounter during the tour.
  • Bring a rain- or windjacket and wear warm clothing underneath. It is always chilly wading through the channels and walking over the open tidal sand- and mudflats.
  • Wearing short pants is strongly recommended. Long pants can cause friction on your skin which may lead to grazes.
  • Your clothes will certainly get wet during the tour, so you will have to bring dry clothes and shoes. If you walk to one of the islands we recommend to pack your clothes in a waterproof bag (for example a simple rubbish bag) and carry this with you in a backpack. If you are joining an educational tour to one of the sandflats the starting point will be similar to the point of arrival. In this case you can leave your dry clothes in your car.
  • Most of the tours take about 3 to 4 hours and walking in the mud takes energy. Therefore we do recommend to bring sufficient food and drinks during the tour.
  • Many people participate in one of our tours and we only have very few people who are not able to finish a tour. But you will certainly need a certain level of fitness. The level of fitness is dependant on which tour you want to join and is also dependant on tidal – and weather conditions. In the description of the various tours we have included an indication of the fitness level needed.
  • Medical assistance is not easily available during the tour. People with heavy overweight and/or medical problems that may require urgent assistance during a tour are therefore discouraged to participate in a tour. Please feel free to contact us in case of doubt.
  • If you are selected for the 6-hour tour to the island of Terschelling you may be asked to show a medical fitness certificate.
  • There is a 14-year minimum age limit to participate in one of the tours, except for the tour to the Eilanderbult which is specifically for families with children. The age limit for this tour is 10 years.
  • Please follow the instructions of the guides. It is prohibited by law to walk on the intertidal sand- and mudflats without a certified guide.
  • Protect the unique natural environment of the Dutch Waddensea. Do not litter. There are many waste bins on the islands.
  • Enjoy your tour and have a great time!
